Artificial intelligence, specialised care and digital healthcare platforms helped create 14 new HealthTech unicorns in 2026 – adding an estimated US$22 billion in private company value, according to new research.
HealthTech emerged as one of the strongest drivers of new unicorn creation during 2026, with 14 companies surpassing the US$1 billion valuation mark and collectively adding an estimated US$22 billion in private value, according to a report from BestBrokers.com.
The sector matched robotics, which also produced 14 new unicorns this year, highlighting growing investor confidence in healthcare innovation driven by artificial intelligence and specialised digital care.
The United States dominated the latest HealthTech funding wave, accounting for 13 of the 14 newly created unicorns. Swiss dental technology company vVardis, valued at US$1 billion, was the only company outside the US to join the list.
Orthopaedic and cardiovascular implant developer MiRus became the highest-valued HealthTech unicorn of 2026 after Boston Scientific invested US$1.5 billion for an approximately 34% stake, giving the company a valuation of around US$4.4 billion.
Other leading companies included healthcare navigation platform Garner, valued at US$2.7 billion, virtual maternity specialist Pomelo Care at US$1.7 billion, AI drug discovery company Vi Labs at US$1.6 billion, sleep technology provider Eight Sleep and therapeutic device developer Science, both valued at US$1.5 billion, mental healthcare platform Talkiatry at US$1.4 billion and AI-powered patient scheduling company Assort Health at US$1.2 billion.
The report found that artificial intelligence had become a defining characteristic of many newly funded HealthTech businesses. Nearly half of this year’s unicorns incorporated AI into products or services spanning healthcare navigation, patient scheduling and pharmaceutical research rather than focusing exclusively on clinical diagnostics.
Specialised healthcare also attracted significant investment. Alongside Pomelo Care, Talkiatry, Eight Sleep and Science, companies including Midi Health, which focuses on menopause and midlife healthcare, and diabetes technology provider Tandem both achieved US$1 billion valuations.
Alan Goldberg, Lead Data Analyst, BestBrokers.com, said AI was fundamentally reshaping the economics of healthcare innovation.
“AI is changing the economics of healthcare startups, just as technology has transformed nearly every corner of the tech industry in recent years. Instead of simply moving existing healthcare services online, the next generation of HealthTech companies are using AI to automate labour-intensive processes, improve patient access and build scalable healthcare infrastructure. By reducing operational costs and accelerating areas such as drug discovery and treatment development, AI is making healthcare startups more attractive investment opportunities and helping fuel the creation of a new wave of billion-dollar companies.”
